Falling Back Into Health

Barre

New Years is typically when most people think about starting plans for health and wellness. The great thing about fall is that is signifies change in the air. Leaves turn color, the weather cools down and it seems to have this new, exciting energy before we embark on the indulgent holiday season.

Some of our specialty businesses have great ideas to help you incorporate a healthier lifestyle this fall:

Stephanie May Potter Lifestyle Coach

We all love summer, especially in Minnesota! The warm weather and longer days means lots of BBQ’s and social gatherings, happy hours outside on the patio or at the pool. But alas, summer always seem to fly by and in no time kids will be heading back to school and we’ll all be settling into a new routine after summer vacations and parties. The good news is that the change in season brings an opportunity to “reset” and/or create new habits and get into a healthy routine. Here are a few suggestions to get you started.  Remember to start small, pick one or maybe two new habits to start at a time in order to make sustainable change. Health is a journey...not a destination!

  • Take time on the weekend (Sundays seem to work well for many) to plan your meals for the week and prep your food. Chop up your fruit and veggies, cook a soup or grain and always make enough for leftovers. Cook once eat twice! The more prepared you are with your food the less likely you’ll be to reach for snacks and processed foods when you’re hungry.
  • Before reaching for that morning caffeinated beverage, whether it's coffee or a soda, try drinking a glass of water with lemon juice. Warm water with lemon is a great way to start your day. Not only is it an excellent source of vitamin C but it has medicinal values and antibacterial properties. It also aids the digestive system by helping to flush out toxins as well as reducing pain and inflammation in joints and knees.
  • Start the day off with a protein and nutrient rich breakfast such as a berry green smoothie with a clean protein powder and/or nut butter. Try eggs with veggies and avocado or oatmeal with fresh fruit, nuts and seeds.
  • Get your zzzz’s! As fun as summers are they can also be exhausting with longer nights (for both adults and kids). Start going to bed just 15 minutes earlier than normal for a few days….then another 15 minutes until you’re waking up without an alarm feeling rested and energized. Try avoiding screen time (TV, phone, iPad) at least 30 minutes before going to bed and make sure you close your blinds to create a dark, cool, quiet and inviting place to sleep.

Lunds & Byerlys

Fall cooking is so comforting, and many fall staple meals can lean on the unhealthy side. Lunds & Byerlys has a new health intiative, Nourish, to help customers plan for a healthier lifestyle. We can't wait to try the Loaded Beef & Veggie Sweet Potato and Baked Berry Oatmeal

The Barre

Back to school can mean back to you!  Saying good-bye to fun summer days can seem dreary, but the routine of the school year can be very helpful when committing to a healthy lifestyle. Take this opportunity to recommit to your health and bring yourself to the barre to meet a stronger, happier you! Fall can be the perfect time to commit to taking class a few times a week to see the results you are after and we offer discounts on unlimited monthly classes. Are you a new client? Your first class is on us and your first month of unlimited classes is only $99.

Back-to-School Dental Visits

Getting the kids ready for school also means getting regular check-ups before school starts, so they can the year fresh. If a child needs some sort of dental work done, it's easier to do it before the school year starts. It's also important to start thinking about morning and bedtime routines and the school year is a perfect way to introduce healthy brushing and flossing routines, since the school year can act as an anchor for routine building. 50th & France has a wide range of dentists, and you can learn more about them in our directory
